Complete newbie thinking aloud.
First off love the site.
Would like to put together a SF single 18650 and direct drive a XM-L.
Cost being one of the main reasons behind the effort.
Found some great info here about direct drive.

Understandably early since many have not gotten this led but would like
to know if it might be possible? (input)
I already own a LiFePO charger (1 8 cell) and would like to go that
direction. Noticing the A123 cell does have a lower resting voltage, 3.33
in the case of my LiFePO 15Ah pouches, than a Li-ion cell (3.7v) and similar
to the typical spec of the XM-L. From what I have read so far it is a bit
of a crap shot whether all the parts will like each other. My goal being a
cheap ( $25 SF clone, $8 XM-L, $3 dx drop-in blank) and possibly a
OVEREADY ZERO RESISTANCE Z41 UPGRADE to negate as much voltage loss
and variability as possible. I understand that while I might not get the full
potential (if any at all???) of what the led can provide if I got 70% of what a
XM-L can put out (especially for $60) that would be great.
Thanks for any help.
