Thought I'd show this 1 meter beamshot comparison of XP-G R5 dropins from Kaidomain and DX. Both are housed in UF WF-501B hosts.
The difference lies in the fact the emitter in the Kai R5 is installed behind the base of the reflector and it shows through a small aperture in the base. This surely causes the beam to be more shrouded and cuts down on OTF brightness and causes it to throw more.
The DX emitter actually sits proud of the base of the reflector, fully exposed, so more of its luminance is projected - and also dispersed as flood. Hence the wider beam - at least 50% greater diameter.
Frankly, the cheaper DX drop-in makes a better floody light, and it is bright as all hell. Just my opinion.
I was a little surprised to see the difference in output until I examined the mounts.
