These inserts are used mainly for turning operations on the lathe, as in reducing the diameter of a bar of aluminum, or in my case, a bar of Titanium. Yes, these inserts made for cutting aluminum are also great for Ti, since they are what are known as positive inserts, meaning that they present a sharp, angled edge to the bar. Not quite as durable as other cutting materials, but the best for easily cutting Ti, and if one gets an insert with a large radius, the finish is terrific.

Good job Fred. Like you I only look at Ebay for good buys on inserts. I have gotten all of my PCD inserts for pennies on the dollar, and on Al they seem to run for ever :)

Another place that often has deeply discounted inserts is the Grainger.com Clearance Center http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/clearanceCenter.shtml

These two items are listed this morning. Quantities available vary from 1 to 1 zillion so you need to phone for availability.

Nice inserts for just over $3 each. The DNMG-432 works well for titanium turning, both roughing & finishing. Buying both a left & a right holder gives a lot of versatility to this 55° shape. Nose radius is 1/32" which is pretty broad & very strong, meaning they run for a long time in Ti. At the same time it is pointy enough to get into a tight radius corner.

Will: Insert retail prices are just a bit too much for me, although occasionally there isn't any alternative. At least I don't mind paying up, when I really need something, since I know I've saved a lot elsewhere--it all averages out nicely.
