I don't own any combat type surefires yet and have been looking at the Z2 and C2. Except for the HA and Pyrex available on the C2, whats the difference between the two? The body styles look slightly different. Which is easier to use with a handgun? What the reason for the two different body styles? Are they specially designed for 2 different purposes?

Don't know the answers to your questions, but if you're thinking on these lines, I would highly recomend the G2Z. I like mine better than my M2. TX

the Z2 is sort of like a "dedicated" combat light, as the grip rings are adjustable whereas the C2 compromises a bit by having grip rings that are not adjustable, but it has the pocket clip which is very useful if you're not gonna carry it in a holster. the flat-sided C2 is supposed to be more ergonomic, but i don't know how true that is because i've never handled a Z2 or Z3. the C2/M2 and Z2/Z3/G2 bodies are definitely more comfortable than a straight body 6P or G2 and provides a very secure grip whether you hold it in the rogers/surefire grip or the normal overhand position.

I guess Z2/Z3 is more intended for police officers while C2/C3/M2/M3 for millitary personel, but what do I know?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I agree. I find myself carrying the G2Z more often than either my C2s or M2s. The G2Z is noticeably lighter than either the C2 or M2, has a pyrex lens, a lockout tailcap, comes with a lanyard, can use the P61 HOLA, and I don't worry about dinging it up -- it does not, however, have a pocket clip, but I carry it in a nylon SOE holster.

As txwest noted, the rubber rings can be removed so that the rubber won't cause any hang up.

The G2Z is the same length as the C2 and shorter than the M2. The bezel is the same diameter as the C2 and smaller than an M2. The diameter of the thin section seems the same as the Z2 and narrower than the thin section of the C2.

It comes in black or OD, will work with the rechargeable kit and (according to reliable sources here) can take a KT_ turbo head

another vote for the G2Z. pyrex, lotc, lightweight and more durable nitrolon, how can you go wrong? don't forget about the lanyard and they're now shipping in od green, my favorite color.

the Z2 should be retired.

i really like the look of the z's, but because it has pyrex and especially ha, i would choose the c.

Same reason for me. Smaller, lighter, & the material seems to be super tuff. It'll fit my SOE holster that the M2 is too long for, even though it was designed for the M2. Also, you can take off the o-ring that sticks out without making it look like it's missing something. That way, you have lots of holster options. TX

How is the G2Z for pocket carry. I found that my new scorpion, while nice and slim, is not good for pocket carry because the rubber won't let it slide in and out easily.

Also, I assumed, without seeing one, that the G2Z would be bigger than it's aluminum counterparts since it is nitrolon and would need thicker walls for equal strength...no? Is the G2Z actually smaller than the Z2 and C2 in thickness?

I would suggest the G2Z for the reasons others have already posted.

I don't see any advantage of the Z2 over the G2Z.

The C2 is a johnny-middle model in my opinion. Not a dedicated CombatGrip model like the G2Z, but not as tough and 'all-singing' feature-rich as the M2.

I suggest the G2Z.

the only thing a C2 lacks from the M2 is a shock isolated bezel and extra o-ring. no biggie.

unless you plan on dropping your light alot i don't see much advantage of carrying that bulky bezel.

you can always add the M2 bezel later and spend less than if you bought the M2 to begin with.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">OD is great.

I've retired my Z2s.

I agree that the C2 (and the old M2 which had the same bezel) are now johhny middle models.

I don't carry my M2 anymore because of the bulky bezel assembly. It's surprising how much the difference is noticeable for carry. I now figure that if I'm going to carry something bigger than the G2Z, I'll carry the M3 which at least does give a lot more light. I tend to think of the M2 like I think of the Porsche SUV -- well made, but rather expensive while not really offering any useful feature edge. It may make sense as a status symbol, but if you want to haul things and really need the 4WD get a real full size SUV and if you want the sort of performance Porsche is known for, get one of their sports cars. If you want a two cell carry light, get the G2Z and if you need more power, get the M3 or M6.

Note that the Ripoffs CO-30 holster works for the G2Z with the combat grip rings fully on! You have to break in the holster a little, but it's really quite nice!

I love my G2Z.
