Hi guys, i have a z32 in possession, and i have a problem with it. It seems that after installing it, on both the 6p and the 9p, the flashlight would work fine for the first few times, but after a while, it doesnt work anymore, either depressing the switch for momentary on or screwing the tail cap for constant on, the first few times this happened, i thought the contacts were dirty, so i disassembled it to clean everything, but this always happens. My 6p and 9p are the original ones without Lock out caps or hex bezel, i was thinking, could this be an issue with the z32, the LA is moving about and not making any contact when the switch is depressed?
I noticed that on the Z32 bezel, it has a rubber collar, this is the shock isolation part?, it moves freely on mine.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys
Cheers and merry christmas

Oops, forgot to mention its the metal collar ring that moves freely on the rubber collar, this metal ring is the one the LA is in contact with
I am wondering if this ring is suppose to be rigid against the rubber collar

Des/roguesw:

I'm guessing you have an older model 6P and 9P.

I have experienced the same Z32-specific problem with the same model Surefires--both older model 6P and 9P's.

The cause is the annodizing process, and manufacturing tolerances resultant. Apparently, a good many older 6P and 9P's are a "wee bit" longer as a result, and this results in non-positive electrical continuity problems.

The "fix" is to "stretch" the lamp assembly's coil-spring bit-by-bit until you get proper functioning. After it seems to work ok, then give it another "bit" of strech.

The above-mentioned "fix" was worked out and advised to me by none other than Steve Ryan (Head of Surefire Tech Support)--and he seemed to be the only one with enough seniority/experience to know of this problem.

Hope that helps...

Cheers mate, this could explain a lot
ok, now i have a possible solution, i might
make up an aluminium ring of about 1/2 mm height,
that will sit between the LA and the metal collar in the Z32, insted of having to strecth the LA, as knowing the klutz i am sometimes, i might break the spring on the LA
thanks,
Des
