"... [soon] Zippo will start to sell an improved multi-purpose lighter. It will be a waterproof, more durable version of a lighter it released last year and, unlike the first generation, will have a flashlight feature.

This will be an outdoor (lighter) that is geared for hiking, camping and other activities...."

(I'm guessing that it's using an LED)

I have an incandescent Zippo lighter flashlight. No joke. No idea how old it is, but my wonderfull, generous, kind, thoughtfull, considerate, boss gave it to me. Works pretty well, though I wish it was an LED.

I had a couple of the ZipLights, too, Craig. Here's the answer to our question from the zippo.com FAQ:

How or where can I purchase a ZipLight® Pocket Flashlight battery pack?

The ZipLight pocket flashlight was discontinued in 2001. Unfortunately, the battery packs are no longer available.

So much for proprietary batteries, eh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

(I do still have a Zippo Butane lighter. Yes, they made one of those, too, and it was the best butane I ever had.)

It's about time someone made a waterproof lighter running off lighter fuel. These are the only kinds that don't eventually fail. The waterproofness will eliminate water getting in and mixing with the fuel, but also prevent evaporation of the fuel.

Nice find!

EDIT: Uh oh, their multipurpose lighter uses butane. I hope Tomas is right and that Zippo can do butane as well as they do lighter fluid.

I have a Zippo light called a ZipLight. It's a little module that replaces the guts of a regular Zippo lighter. Actually has a focusable beam! It seemed like a good idea when I quite smoking untill I found out that you couldn't replace the bateries. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif

Anyway, I successfully pried mine apart when the batteries died without damaging the unit. It runs on two of what appears to be AAAA batteries. I say "appears to be" because I've honestly never seen a verified AAAA battery in my life. If you wanted to make your own there is room enough for three AAA batteries with a sliver of room left over for electronics in an empty Zippo case. Wouldn't be too hard to direct drive a Nichia if you were inclined to, but you'd be hard pressed to fit the closing mechanism in with 3 AAA in there too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

In a separate thread somewhere here on CPF, someone said that if you carefully take a 9V battery apart, it has 6 x 1.5 volt batteries that are very close in size to AAAA.

They needed the batteries for <insert brand name here> stylus-type flashlight.

This is true. Although I'm not familiar with AAAAs either, I have dismantled a 9V battery, and found these 6 very small cylindrical cells. However, I have dismantled others that have 6 flat cells stacked in them.
