Re: MuyShondt Aeon Question
Can I use a RCR-2? Or will I loose the dual stage like with the ION?
Thanks Rob

illum_the_nation: I do not know with certainty what factory the LEDs I used came from, but they are R2 flux, WH Color bin XR-Es bought from Cree here in the United States. I've been using Cree LEDs in some form or another for the better part of four years, I've built up relationships with my suppliers for quite a while and you can be assured the parts I've got are authentic, if that's what your worry was.
CONGRATS on your black Aeon. Now don't be shy . . . show us a pic!
Nothing special on the lanyard. Just a 550 ball that gets shortened up at night.
Hello Kelmo,
No, and yes. Obviously the form factor is similar, but an "updated Ion" would entail similar characteristics in rather important areas. What makes a flashlight is the beam, and that, as someone quoted me here, makes this light something rather different from a design point of view and accordingly, has a different name.
The name is also Muyshondt, I don't know what prompted your and illum_the_nation's capitalized s...

Enrique
Congratulations!! That's one heck of a B-Day gift...My B-Day is Friday and I treated myself to a Aeon. Good Grief!!! I've only had my Ion for 2 weeks and now this. Lighthound usually gets me my purchases in 2 days so maybe it will be there for my celebration!
Is the low on the Aeon like the Ion?
Not to hijack this post at all, but StandardBattery I too am carrying my LD01-SS (and I love it!) but I am VERY interested in the Aeon... can y'all compare and contrast these two beauties for me?Hmmm... I've been thinking I need to downsize my keychain in the new year. This does sound like a great keychain light. The power source has a major conflict with my alter-ego, but at the same time it's integral to the overal design and appears to be utilized perfectly. Hmmm.... I just got an LD01-SS... Hmmm  :candle::devil::candle::popcorn::caution: :shakehead :broke::D:thinking:
Thanks Illum. As a true flashaholic, I will have to have both! ;)well...trying to compare a carrot and a turnip might be a tad difficult...
Don't have an LD01, does own a couple L0D-CEs and neck-edcs those before I started with the aeon
L0D-CE Q4
Aeon
- Thinner than Aeon, a major plus if you plan to edc it on your keys
- 5 modes over two [would could be good or bad depending on your use]
- Ability to use Alkalines, though L92s the only option for a more realistic runtime on high [18 minutes versus ~1h22min]
- Cheaper by about 50%, a major plus if your wallet bottomed out after black friday
- Not very eye catching in black, which is good around people
- PWM sucks, its not a light for supporting macro photography, I'm a hobby photographer at times when I'm free and my lights serve this uncommon duty
Whether its best for you I cannot say, but it turned out better for me...the L0D-CE stays on the belt with a fenix clip...its my show-off light, but thats really about it as long as it runs on alkaline [L92s cost more than CR2s in terms of appreciable runtime according to the Aeon:nana:]
- Artistically appealing, which could be hard to agree on based on an individual basis. Someone said its ugly:eek:
- Sapphire window [by far the clearest window I've seen for any flashlight, not to mention how hard it is. It's more scratch resistant than the borosilicate window on my mag85]
- two modes, low or high, with more than a half turn between and sufficient resistance when turning [it will not get turned on accidentally, you must twist the head very deliberately for it to work]
- CR2 cell might be a turn down, but you should see how useful low mode is and how long it lasts. keeping in mind that a CR2 has about 800mah of juice, which is lower than an AAA battery. Just for the sake of argument, you used an L92 in your L0D-CE instead of an alkaline [instead of 5h30min to 50% on low you'd get 9 hours 5 mins] the CR2 on low yields 40 hours of light. yeah I know, you feel skeptical about this value. user Endeavor claimed 1.5 hours on high, two reviews drew 1h 22 min to 50%, none for low. I bought my Aeon in the 29th of September from lighthound and used it daily around work, in the house, midnight raid to the fridge, etc. heck, if I have to wake up early to go to work I used the light in the shower [because the 60W lamps are just too bright in the morning]. To this day I'm still using that Duracell CR123A it came with, and my ZTS still says its 40%!
- The Aeon's high mode will fire up when the cell doesn't even click on the ZTS, the L0D-CE's circuit, being that its first mode is PWM based, is quite picky about dead batteries, if you could quickly switch modes to the high mode, it might still give you some light. DO NOT USE THE L0D-CE AS YOUR MAIN LIGHT, its awesome as a sidekick though
- The brass decoration will tarnish very quickly, so your light will look very used just in the first few weeks if you keep it around you where sweat might get on it [say a neck lanyard]. its not like a Mcgizmo that you could EDC and use as you please and still be able to sell it as mint, which comes as proof of use:whistle:
Thanks Illum. As a true flashaholic, I will have to have both! ;)
The pain!! There is just TOO MUCH good stuff out there right now! Also, one of the resellers for Muyshondt is having a sale on the Aeon right now... it is about twenty buckaroos cheaper than the next guy and thus I have already pulled trigger! If anyone is thinking about it, this price seems impossible/unbeatable!With the Mako coming out soon you better make that "I will have to have all three!" :nana:
