Also love the mini, and u can use side presses to get to high mode with only 1 twist, so I see that as a benefit

Well I didn't have good luck with my Ti 123 mini, the things comes on whatever mode it likes to turn on, on some bad days I can't get the mode I want to use it turns on on high or jumps to strobe then to low, etc.
I have tried several lubes and techniques, grease, silicon oil, some times no lube at all. no mater what I do it goes the same way. but then I have the good days and it obeys every single command. It's a moody Light. I have edc it since day one on my car key chain. love the light blast, but I'm not happy with the UI. ~$40-$70 lights, there's no excuse, this are sold as high end flashlights.

This must just be a 123 version problem. The Quark Mini AA I just received as part of a trade is perfect. There is no loose threads at all. The amount of force to tighten and loosen the head is completely consistant the whole time. There is no loose head syndrome at all!

James....

Don't know about the CR123 however my AA is just like yours. Threads are good without play. No mode skipping issues. No loose head syndrome whatever that is. I got the warmer tinted AA so don't know about the XP-G lottery issue. 4Sevens hit the ball out of the park with the tint on these. The only down side being the light isn't super bright but knew this going into it given the lower Bin and it's bright enough for my needs. It's a good backup light that is often taken on AT hikes. It's not the world's best gear item but for the money very good. I may just get an XP-G AA mini one of these days too.

I love my Mini123. Ever since I got it, I've been carrying it right next to my other, $500 EDC. I wouldn't exactly call it comparable, but it certainly holds its own and certainly is a truly compelling light at the price.

I suggest that your Mini may be faulty and that you will find satisfaction in getting a replacement through customer service.

Side presses to high in 1 twist?

Seriously, it works if the head is not screwed too far out, close to turning on. press near the threads 2x and than twist and it goes to high mode. Can also use this technique like a forward clicky.

Ah... that method. I thought you meant pressing the side of the light, not the tail. :)

Well I asked for a good single 123 with a $100 budget and got a lot of recommendations for the Quark. I have owned many hundreds of lights and IMO this is a POS. Maybe I got a bad one and I will contact CS. I also know some people back in the day would call some really crappy lights great and compare them to high end lights b/c they were cheap and bright. IMO there is a lot more to a light than the price and output. I got a $39 light and was hoping for more so now I have a $100 light coming and hope it is better.

Poor quality loose threads. Falls apart in my pocket. Mode bouncing, and very unreliable. I don't know what I was thinking. I Spent $39 for a light that is not even worth a battery change. I should have know better then to waste money on such a cheap light. I would have purchased the Titan t1a if it was not so heavy. I was worried it may hurt the ignition switch on the car.

I am shocked any person can recommend this light from this forum. All this light has going for it is brightness. If you can get the correct mode to work. And I do mean IF!!!

That has been my experience as well with a recently purchased Mini AA. Arrived in the mail yesterday. Love it!

Having just bought a Quark I would be curious about their customer service, and now a little worried based on this thread. They claim 120 months warranty on manufacturer defects, which the threads and circuitry should be covered.
How come no one's posting on how 4Sevens gave them a new light during warranty period?
The quantity of lights they must be selling just looking at posts on the forums must be high. We have a failure rate represented in this thread, which may amount to 1% which could be acceptable. Can anyone confirm an exchange during warranty period?

Doug

Hi all, my first post, but I'd take exception to calling the MiNi123 a POS.
YOUR MiNi123 might be a POS but that does not give you the right to brand the whole line as the same.
I have one of the first MiNi123's and I think that, for the money, it is very good, not perfect, but very good. I EDC it all the time and it has never failed, or given me cause to worry. It always works as it should.
I'm sure there are many who would say the same if they could be bothered to reply.
I have just lost my forum virginity on a rant and for that I apologise to you all and especially to myself.
Regards, 1st-tadpole.

What EDC do you carry, sir? my EDC is also $500, but it is 5 RRT-0's.

Just thought I would add too my mini 123 is fantastic, holds its own against much more expensive lights, perfect white, perfect beam profile, and no play in the threads so sounds like if you dont like it you have a lemon! Well worth contacting 4sevens and not just dismissing what could be a fantastic light for you.

Cheers

Chris

My experiences with my mini 123 neutral white has been great so far. I know that it can be activated easily in the pocket if you don't loosen it enough, and if you loosen it too much, a little part of the o-ring will be exposed. But I've gotten used to its tight loose 'behavior'. And I understand its limitation because it is very small for a 123 light and I love it! :D

I tried the teflon tape. 95% improvement. It is still harder to use with one hand vs the AA but I think that is because it is so small. No more wobble and turning on and off simply by touching or twisting the head (what mode you would end up in when the head was tightened all the way used to be a big suprise).

Thank You

We don't know the volume that 4sevens has done with this light, so it is very difficult to judge whether the series is bad.

I tend to think that they have sold many of these lights, and when you do any manufacturing there will be a failure rate. Ideally QC will find these, but there will always be some lemons that slip through. The people with lemons tend to be very vocal, so it only seems that there is a high failure rate.

If your light is not satisfactory to you, either return it to 4sevens, or exchange it for a light that isn't a lemon. I haven't had to deal with 4sevens customer service for anything yet, but I have no doubt that if I had issues with a light from them, they would take care of me.
