Need Help With Jumbo LED

I just made some 2 cell led lights to go in a flashlight, and built it just like a website told me to but when I turned it on

. It put out very little light. I used a Radioshack Red Jumbo LED with a 47k resistor. Can someone tell me what size resistor I need to use? It has a forward voltage of 2.4V. Or do I even need to use a resistor?

The resistor value is huge. Assuming you want to run that thing at 30mA, you'd need something around 20 Ohms (you're using 47000 Ohms!).
