Well, I have a Garrity 2 AA light that I fitted with a higher wattage xenon meant for 2D flashlights, which is rated at 2.4v 0.9A.
It puts the Luxeon I to shame in throw and bright as the 2D and I'm happy with the performance...
but. . . the plastic reflector melted a bit and deformed. Is there such thing as a 2AA light the size of a cheap 2AA light that can handle the heat of a 2.2W xenon bulb?
