Can I use two Saft LSH 20s to power a Carley Xenon Star 715 or 716?

It's probably been 10 years since I had the idea of using two lithium D-cells and a bulb for a 4 to 6 cell light in my Maglite 2D. I feel compelled to do it. Before I drop $100 or more on batteries and bulbs, can anyone tell me if it will work? Are the batteries and bulbs compatible?

Hmm, interesting idea-

I don't see why it wouldn't work- I checked the specs on thas Saft battery and it will push 1.8 amps continuously and up to 4.5 pulsed, so, the battery has the power to run a pretty high current bulb.

Some of the other guys around here are more expert on the bulbs than I to suggest which would be best to use.

It seems like an awful expensive way to do it though. I'll bet that light will cost $20.00 - $30.00 an hour to run.
