Re: Led Christmas Lights!
here are my testing results of last years set.
i have been testing 2 sets of unregulated cheapo led xmas light sets.
this style uses just a string of leds long enough to make the voltage correct.
the string pulses , as it only picks up the 1/2 side of the ac current, and they are basically the cheapest possible way that anyone would string a set of leds together. and about the worst way to keep them alive with perfect light.
but , they use very little juice, they were cheap as heck, and they light the stairway very nicely for safety.
one set has in it i figure the cheapo white china high bright leds, and the other uses colors, red green blue orange yellow.
after running NON_STOP for a full year, the whites are rather dim, 2 whites died, and amasingly enough the string didnt stop operating. i replaced the dead ones easily with cheap china white leds.
the colored one has 2 bulbs out and it too still operates, its almost as bright as the day i purchaced it. after all there are no phosphors in the colored ones.
so the results of my test show that:
they oughta last 10 years as xmas lights used for a month each year
they dont cut off when one led is dead
and, i am glad i didnt put them away, because i hate detangling
so for 13$ i would say its one heck of a deal, and after all its LEDS
both strings together consume about the power of a single 7W night light, so thats nice on the power. big old style xmas bulbs (candelabra size) EACH bulb would use the same about 7W.
