1W "High Power" LED vs 6-LED bulbs?

I'm looking to replace a few 194 bulbs in the interior of a car (the bulbs are used for map lights) and I wanted to make my car look a bit more unique AND reduce the IR signature in the process :grin2:

I came across several different types of LEDs that I've seen used in flashlights:

single LED (inverted cone)
3-4 LED bulbs (cluster)
5 LED refracted/matrix (5 aimed at different positions)
6-LED cluster
1W "High Power" (looks like a SMD)
1W High Power with heat sink

The lamp housing in my application uses a diffused lens and it doesn't appear to really use any type of reflector. All the light has to do is hit the diffuser and shine down so I can see where my shifter is located and where to stick the key in the ignition.

Which one of these LEDs will be the brightest and give me the least risk of a fire hazard? The SMD 1W High Power looks like it might get hot and the map light housing isn't very large.

Thanks in advance for any help.
