OK, so I'm expecting these little beauties to turn up this week...

mcluxclassics.jpg

one is a tk2003
the other is a PR with Lux-III/DB917 and the epoxy around the LED has degraded a bit and caused some damage to the silvering of the reflector...

seems like the perfect opportunity to do a bit of tweaking but I am new to all of this and I'm not an electrical engineer so what mods do I do?

I was thinking of turning the PR into something with good throw and good runtime as it's 3x123

any thoughts? any modders you can recommend?

They arrived!!

The TK2003 is in good shape, but the PR has reflector damage...

Can someone help me out here and suggest what I need to do to upgrade to a nice tint with plenty of throw and what reflector I need to get hold of to replace this ?

...........:candle: ............any help would be appreciated...?

Hi UK, What you got there is a BIG piece of CPF history.
The most I would do is swap the LED to something more modern.
I too have the exact same unit in original shape, everything is stock.

Thanks for your reply modamag!

what about refurbishing the reflector then? the flakey bits don't really affect the beam but it looks a bit tatty...

This is the reflector I need to replace or repair and I want to replace (and upgrade) the LED on the PR too as it looks like the pink epoxy has knackered the relfector.... anyone help?

If you want I can refurbish the McLux PR head by replacing the repflector and the led. :)

Definately NICE snag ! And also great piece(s) of history !

If you ask me, keep it on a LuxIII with DB917, maybe a U-binned emitter will do a better task then the current led.

I can assist you also in doing the mod yourself or can offer to do the mod for you, as I have the parts to replace in stock, from a project that never took off...

Cheers !

Thanks for the replies !!

I now have options... I definitely need to buy a new reflector
(anyone got one to sell if so how much....icarus, bombelman...?) but would like to replace the LED with a premium bin....

Any one have a diagram of the heads construction so I can disassemble without knackering anything ?

my other option is to buy a 'fresh' head and leave the old original one stock

welcome to cpf..

PR head takes a 27mm Mcgizmo reflector usually available from dat2zip shoppe, do a Google search for dat2zip shoppe

if TK is from original run, seems like it was under serial # 144
emitter will be surrounded by glow epoxy.

TK'll probably have a low dome greenie emitter. but that emitter represents the best that was available in 2003. You'll basically have to destroy the light to replace emitter. leave that puppy alone!

rare proto TK and later TK's had no glow epoxy. those you can mod easily with newer emitter.

the TK is later model #319 with no glow epoxy, but that is in good condition
so i don't intend to do anything with that except replace the o-rings as they have mostly split...

it's only the PR that has suffered damage due to the glow stuff

there's no point in just getting a new reflector as it will only happen again, so i will either leave the old head stock and get another complete head with new emitter, or strip down the old head and chage the reflector and emitter...

it's pretty common to replace reflector only. no sense in replacing entire head over a reflector.

Or just scrape off glow-poxy and replace emitter with nice binned led and replace reflector...

ok decided then...
if it's easy enought to just pop the old led out and scrape off the epoxy I'll do that

and get U bin emitter and new reflector

the shoppe has no reflectors in stock....

I will post a WTB thanks for all the help !
