Hi There,

Just wondering what you would suggest in the way of a rugged LED light, probably take some abuse and recoil, etc., but is also bright, and decent life, e.g. 60 minutes+ 90 minutes, etc...

I have heard that Surefire, and Wolf Eyes are rugged. Are there others?

Is it possible to get a Wolf Eyes Xenon, then put in an LED dropin? Suggestions for dropins? Is it better to get a Surefire then do an LED dropin, or Wolf Eyes? Are Q5 Cree dropins available yet?

I am located in Canada, and am having trouble locating Wolf Eyes. Surefire seems easier to find. But I don't like the RCR123A's so much. Which is why I am leaning more towards the Wolf Eyes, and 18650. Can Surefires be modded to accept 18650 for more run time? I read Malkoff dropins cannot work with Wolf Eyes. Dang...

You didn't mention brightness level.

The underwater kinetics eled series are often overlooked. You'll get good solid brightness, long runtime, extreme durability, and an attractive price with them.

SF is tops for rugged, just about everyone can do 60-90 min runtimes now, but how bright are you looking for? SF E2L is 40 Lumens for 9 straight hours in regulation and very tough.
Give us a little more info to help you out please.

I am looking at the 150 lumens range. Surefires don't seem to have much there for extended times. And also modest size, nothing extremely big. Probably 4cm diameter, less than 20cm length preferably.

Do a bit of research on the Tiablo line then. It's talked about lots here in CPF! Bright tough and good runtime. Even a Cree Q5 model now.

Surefire can be modded with 17670s but if you want 150+ lumens, go for wolf eyes. I tested it on my M4, 12g fully automatic shotgun, M14 and UMP. The light can take one hell of a beating.:grin2:
