There is a very floody 1 AA Cree headlamp by Zebralight. Thread. Not really that high output but very useful at close rage.
I've also heard Coleman uses Cree in all their newer Headlamps, but I don't know if they are the XR-E Crees.

Try the River Rock (Target) K2. Very bright, all spot with little or no flood. $25. Runs on 3 AA's.

Ill second the river rock, I have their headlamp,2aaa flash light and 1aa light. All three rock.

My Apex? I got my P4 LEDs and reflector from PhotoFanatic in the mail and I almost immediately set about doing the upgrade. I cracked my light casing a little, though, due to a bonehead mistake. 
It's not bad though. Just need to get a tiny dab of silicone to spread over it to seal it up.
The upgrade really was simple, though, as long as you don't mind voiding the warranty on a $60+ light.
