I'm needing to do a 'direct drive' (no regulator) 1 watt luxeon project. The only luxeons fitting these specs without a step up would be the red and amber given their significantly lower Vf.

Question:
Has anyone done a mod using red or amber and directly driving them with 123 lithium cells?
Results? In particular, how bright are they in comparision with 1 watt whites driven at specification? (360ma thereabouts.)
Finally, anyone have low Vf amber and willing to part with them?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I build lots of red/orange Luxeon mods direct driven on 2AA lithiums. They are BRIGHT ! easily brighter than a 1W white at spec. The red is not as bright and neither is the amber..

Just remember that you MUST isolate the emitter's die slug from electrical ground!

How many amber LS's are you looking for?

Ah Slick, once again you come through with most helpful comments.

Well....if the red/orange is the brighest, then any chance I can get a few from you? PM sent.

Thanks!
