Hi, (I edited this to add the SL6 and Mag 6D data on 3 Jun)

Surefire E2e
Center Beam Candlepower 1350 cd
5 degrees off axis 400 cd
1050 mA curent draw
(2 123A)

Brinkmann LX
Center Beam Candlepower 3000 cd
5 degrees off axis 200 cd
1250 mA current draw
(2 123A)

UKE SL6
Center Beam Candlepower 8000 cd
5 degrees off axis 400 cd
1130 mA current draw
(6 C)

Mag 6D with Magnum Star Mag Lamp
Center Beam Candlepower 5400 cd
5 degrees off axis 150 cd
740 mA current draw
(6 D)

I borrowed a Minolta T-1 Illuminance meter from work and thought I'd post some measurements of Center Beam Candlepower (CBCP) of a few lights.

This is more accurate than what I had previously been posting for a variety of reasons. The photographic meter reads high (or I have the conversions wrong) and the color sensitivity is not the same in the two meters...It's better to measure at say two feet and then calculate for inverse square. This better matches the 10 foot reading.

Enjoy!

Note that all of the above measurements were done at two feet.

At 10 feet, the following measurements were made:

SL6 - 13500 cd
Mag 6D - 12000 cd
Brinkmann LX - 3500 cd
SF E2e - 1500 cd

But, the E2e had the broadest and smoothest beam, the Brinkmann next smoothest and about equal in breadth to SL6 and the Mag was the narrowest. Both the SL6 and the Mag were a bit oblong while the other two were almost precisely circular.

There is no one easy way to characterize a flashlight with numbers. I think I'm done with this for a while.

Thanks all--and you can reach me via email if I don't show up here all that often.

Cheers,

Richard
