Hello gents,

I have a U2 with 18650, and was wondering if any of you have an idea of runtime in this configuration? A search came up snake eyes...

Also was wondering about how it would compare to standard runtime on 2 CR123 primaries, as well as on 17670. L5 runtime on 17670 would be similar too, I suspect, right?

Hi There

I have a Surefire U2 converted for 18650 LiON use (the inner plastic tube in the battery tube was removed). Here is what you can expect:

18650 battery run times (2600Mah LiOn battery)

High -- 1.8 hrs
Step 2 -- 3.2 hrs
Step 3 -- 7.0 hrs
Step 4 -- 14.0 hrs
Step 5 -- 27.0 hrs
Low -- 50.0 hrs plus

These numbers came from using Chevrofreak's runtimes for a 2200Mah battery and interpolating. Your results may vary but they should be pretty close.

Hope this helps

It's about an hour and a half. I have the same setup and love it!!!!

I haven't used any other rechargables but 123a's give me around an hour of light :)

hope this helps!

Hey Manzerick, cool thanks for the info! So looks like about 50% more runtime. I thought it'd be more, but that's definitely not shabby! =)

And you're right, I should have checked out FLR for the stock runtimes.

Do you have the old 2-flats U2 body, or the rounded, that takes 18650?

Wow, thanks for that very helpful reply, laur! You da man :twothumbs

I have a feeling you flipped the "low" and the "high" rating though right? But I get the picture. 1.8 hrs sounds pretty good, and with some variance is pretty close to Manzerick's results too.

That 50 hr runtime on low setting is respectable...

Btw, have any of the rest of you felt like low on the U2 is definitely not 2 lumens, but much brighter? I find it too bright for nighttime use, actually - the only thing that I'd change about the U2 if possible... :duh2:
