Hey all I just picked up a Freedom recently and on the package it says that it takes 2 2016 (I think) batteries or 1 2032 but it says it depends on the LED color for the 2032. I can't find any other info to describe that.

I got the white led and was wondering if I could use 1 2032 battery in the Freedom? I tried to pop off the back cover to figure this out myself but broke the tab and left it at that. So on that note what is an easy to get the battery cover off?

Thanks.

You can use one CR2032 battery for the white LED. It will be pretty dim, but maybe enough for your uses. Check it out for yourself if you've got some of those batts. I can't hurt anything.

You might need to bend the battery clip down to get contact with a 2032 cell, so be careful. I don't know if a 2032 is a thick as
2x2016s.

Awesome, thanks for the info all, I didn't think to look at their website until right after I posted here.

These Lithium coin cell's names are a size code.
2032 means 20mm diameter and 3.2mm height
That means a 2016 is exactly half thickness at 1.6mm

The rest of the story...

The 2016 and 2032 batteries are also the same voltage.

What that means is that you "can" use a 2032 battery to replace 2x2016, but you'd now be running on half the voltage and therefore the light will be a lot dimmer.

So if you just want a keyhole finder, a 2032 would be great because at it's rated capacity, it would last forever.
But if you want the light's maximum brightness, you will want to use 2x2016 batteries (stacked), but they won't last as long as a single, dimmer, 2032.
