CTA 12,000 mAh self-discharge study

I got these CTA D cells rated at 12,000 mAh. I have 6 of them. I got the new Malkoff module and was oh so excited. Charged them, put them in and played with it on and off for 2 weeks. Used it actually.

Take out the cells, they are at 1.27V and look like they got plenty of juice.
However, I looked at the 3 cells that I was not using, and they show 1.3V. I know Voltage is not an indication of how much mAh is left, but an indication as I use it. Weird. That suggests these CTA cells have a much higher self-discharge rate than I thought. If cells sitting on a shelf are barely better than the ones used for 2 weeks?

I am getting some LSD D-cells....

the only way to know how much they discharged is to do a discharge test on them after they have sat around for some decided on amount of time. A voltage test is, unfortunately, meaningless.
