Since the EX10 and D10 are similar in output and design but use a different battery type, I am curious as to how the following compare in runtime:

1) D10 with AW's 14450 cell and EX10 with AW's RCR123
2) D10 with Energizer (L91?) primary lithium and EX10 with Energizer primary CR123.

I would think they should be close. The EX10 may have a slight advantage with primary cell due to the converter being a little more efficient at the higher voltage. Its possible the D10 may run a bit longer on the 14450 cell due to it being rumored to provide a bit more capacity than a RCR123??????? Should be interesting.

From 4sevens post on the marketplace thread:

The EX10:
* Uses CR123A's as well as protected lithium-ion RCR123A's!

* Stainless steel retaining ring in bezel.

* Dimensions: 77mm x 21.5mm or 3.0in x 0.85in (length x diameter)

* Weight: 35g or 1.2oz (without batteries)

* Runtimes on CR123A (until 50%)
Max: 130 lumens, 110 minutes
Min: 3 lumens, 65 hours or 2.7 days!

* Runtimes on RCR123A (protected only)
Max: 130 lumens, 80 minutes
Min: 5 lumens, 60 hours or 2.5 days!

The D10:
* Uses common AA's as well as protected lithium-ion R14500's!

* Dimensions: 89mm x 19mm or 3.5in x 0.75in (length x diameter)

* Weight: 40g or 1.4oz (without batteries)

* Runtimes on one AA
Max: 130 lumens, 50 minutes
Min: 3 lumens, 45 hours or 1.9 days!

* Runtimes on one R14500 (protected only)
Max: 130 lumens, 80 minutes
Min: 5 lumens, 60 hours or 2.5 days!

Honestly, I think the D10 ain't worth the extra length...

But the D10 is slimmer than the EX10 and to some fits better in the pocket - YMMV.

I think the runtime figures listed above are rough comparison. I do not think they would be exactly the same. I am sure that some of the great reviewers here will shed some light.

It will be interesting to see how a 1.7 volt AA lithium cell with approximately 3000mA compares with a 3 volt CR123 cell with approximately 1500mA in these two lights. Since the AA cell is very easy to get in 4 packs at moderate prices at so many stores. I don't think the runtimes were listed for a AA lithium primary.

I would run the D10 with the 14450 cell and carry a L91 as backup.

While I like 123 lights, I prefer the size of a AA light to a single 123 light. Better yet is the P3D size if you need something to hang on to.

I think it makes a difference depending on your mode of carry though. Obviously a AA light does not ride on a keychain well.

These are not key chain lights. The king of the key chain lights are still the LF2X, L0D for multi-mode, and Fenix E01 / E0 / Arc AAA for single mode lights.

I think they will be great for around the neck lanyard and coin pocket lights. I really am impressed with the design and look forward to purchasing both of them. Ive never seen a single AA light with those particular features before, and I think its pretty darn clever.

I have no idea where the idea that a 14500 had the same cap as a RCR started but they have much more energy, and maintain a higher voltage under the same draw.

Here are all of my RCRs vs my two 14500's. Note: The top 3 RCRs are out of AWs latest batch and were just received those before it vary as far back as Apr 07.
