Is it possible to have the underground linked to our current CPF membership so we do not have to reregister...I think that would encourage folks to use it rather than the cafe. Just a simple warning in the link about more mature conversation ahead should be ample...unless there`s porn links in the underground (I would hope not).

Folks wanting to talk about food pictures, cats...chickens and other cool stuff could still post in the cafe.

Others who wish to talk about cost of gas, speed llimits or electric/hydrogen cars...offensive political type stuff...could simply click on a link set up on the same page...the computer should know whom they are...and the postings would no longer be put in the relaxing cafe area.

Seems it would simplify the setup and threads that are more...mmm... offensive to young children (guess thats where the problem rests) would not have to be closed constantly

One problem with the Underground is that I simply haven't been able to view it for over a year. Something happened when I went to save my updated profile and ever since whenever I try to log in I get a blank screen. Therefore, the Underground is pretty much useless to me as a discussion venue.

+1 I think the registration process is excessive.

There's just not much content or follow up (traffic) on that forum to justify posting anything.

Jtr1962, I can tell that your account there is unusable, but I can't find anything that can be altered administratively to permit it's use. Since you only have one post in your history, and you registered an alternate name, I'd suggest a reregistration. Pick another user name, or use your Jtr1962 screen name. We can just lock out the other account. You will need a different email address.

NA8, I haven't tried to sell you or anyone on the Underground as an active discussion board for politics. Politics are there, and it's the CPF place for it. Since CPF is a flashlight board, a less than ideal political soapbox has never seemed essential.

Besides being a flashlight board, we recognize too the value of a friendly community and acceptable materials for all ages, sexes, races, nationalities, political preferences and religions. The registration process helps limit access to those of sufficient age and those that wish to avoid the risk of roughened feathers, so to speak. It helps us too to insure that what occurs there, stays there.

With all do respect...I simply don`t see the need for it. Just a simple link below the cafe...Current Events and Opinions. Anyone posting there understands not everyone will agree with there veiw. I think this change would increase membership and hold the intrest of oldtimers...like me...after the thrill of flashlights wanes. As CPF exist right now it is a much more boring place than it was years ago. I`m sure advertisers would want membership intrest retained as well.

The solution seems so simple to me. Anyway...my opinion.

Perhaps that is not the point of The Underground. I, for one, like my alter ego down there. It's the Vegas of CPF. What goes on there stays there.

Well I don`t know what goes on down there...but anyone...anyone...can fake their age and get in. The idea that it is protecting the young is nonsense...thier probably the ones that have the most desire to get in thinking they will find smut...dirty talk or something...and probably the ones who hang out their the most. My opinion is that if a post can`t be veiwed by all it should be taken to private mail.

I see some threads that do get out of hand...but I see many threads being closed that are interesting and infomative way to soon and for no real reason. Other than not everyone has the same veiw. Perhaps a herd of sheep might enjoy that level of peace...but at this point...I for one... am finding it anoying to see thread after thread shut down.

Go down to The Underground and talk politics and I think you will see a few black sheep.

It is ridiculous to think the age limit warning will stop anyone as you say. I'm 13 and I hang there all the time j/k.

Another use for the Underground is demonstrated with that paragraph. While you may feel that you should have every right to discuss moderation and the rules here, CPF rule #6 says you don't. Actually, there is no place on CPF where complaints of moderation or the rules are permitted. As the rule states, "it is very disruptive to the board when gripes take over a thread." Incidentally, that rule is commonplace on many boards.

That rule, however, doesn't mean your ability is restricted to complain, discuss, reason, appeal, or suggest matters such as moderation acts or the rules. On CPF, such matters are permitted to be discussed in the Underground. They have been at times, with varying results. Just as with the other restrictions, the restriction is in where it's considered proper topic. We don't mind the "disruption" in the Underground.

I agree a separate forum for slightly more disruptive but still not x-rated political talk might be a good idea. This way anyone who wants light-hearted off topic discussion will still have the Cafe without involving themselves in threads where more impassioned responses exist. That being said, both of those threads you referred to ended up closed on account of a small minority of members insisting on injecting party politics into the discussion. If we had stuck to discussing gas prices or speed limits on their own merits, free of partisan rhetoric, then the threads probably would have remained open. Ditto for lots of other closed threads.

I'm guilty of some of that and should not have posted one comment in the 55 thread. I'll keep the posts on topic in the future.

Speaking of on topic, I think it might be interesting if instead of closing a thread, the whole thread was moved to the Underground. I guess the software can't do that though, esp with the secondary registration.

At any rate, I'm more interested in CPF continuing as a flashlight forum than a political forum.

Perhaps I carried this thread off topic and I`m sorry.. Let me return it. Is it possible to remove the door to the underground? My feelings are that it serves no purpose...

If not, could a new area be created for inbetween topics without a door...topics that are borderline political...not canidates, not abortion, not religion...but lighter topics that are about current events and interests...with the understanding that not everyone will agree/have the same view point...and thats expected and ok...?

Simple an area where there is more tolerance before threads get closed...call it something cute...The Jungle...for example.
