Hello!

I just got a Nikon Coolpix 3100 and am very happy with it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My only concern is batteries. It goes through regular AAs
like water and the CRV3 lithiums are very expensive. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Can anyone recommend a good recharger and brand/type of
rechargable battery./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Would AA lithiums work as well as the combo CRV3s?

Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You should be able to use NiMH AA's and they'll run the camera for much longer than alkalines. Alkalines hold a little more energy but work best at lower current drain.

www.thomas-distributing.com is a good source of NiMH batteries and chargers.

AA lithiums will work fine but are also awfully expensive.
NiMH is the answer.

I love my Sony CyberShot S75... Lithium ion rechargeable that gives it about three hours of nonstop use with the LCD on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great accolades have been given to the Maha MH-C401FS.
http://www.mahaenergy.com/products/PowerEx/ce/mhc401fs.htm

It has three main features that recommend it:
1) 100 Minute fast charge mode
2) individual (per-cell) charge control
3) a 5 hour slow charge mode (critical for that first charge)

The one thing that it seems to be missing is a discharge function, but you can buy a 4 pack of Infinity Ultra-G's for that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I don't own one of these, but I agree with the reasoning behind their popularity. I do, however, own 4 other Maha chargers all of which have performed perfectly in the years that I have owned them. I have no reason to believe that this guy wouldn't be just like them.

Ohh, they also sell NiMH cells that are highly rated.

Be careful with lithum batteries some cameras cannot handle the heat. I am not sure but I think there is a better price with a little higher mah battery over here. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif
I know the Nimh batteries worked wonders for my digital camera.

Can't hande what heat?

He's taking a camera designed to take the 3V (2AA side-by-side sized) Lithium packs (CRV3)s and replace them with individual AA sized cells. So, it can handle one Li chemestry...
