Thanks for the runtime graph, EngrPaul! I've been getting pretty much the same results... anywhere from 1hr 5 min, to 1hr 15 min to 50%, using NiMH batteries.

For those of you who don't know, EngrPaul was the first (that I know of) to swap an SSC into these lights.

Yes, they're direct drive. But when using NiMH batteries, which have a relatively flat output curve, it performs like a regulated light. The benefit is that there's no driver to burn out or malfunction. Simplicity at it's best!

Wow, I never realized how nice the output graph is! I love the one you modded for me, and grab it every time I need a compact thrower. Simply a great light.

Re: They're Back!! SSC Modded Coast Focusing Lensers!!!

How is it possible? I thought LL Hokus Focus is direct driven .

Good quality NiMH batteries.

P.S. I don't use a fan when I do a runtime.

If you are looking for a flashlight that pierces the fog, try this one. There is very little side-spill, so the light bounces off your target, not the moisture in the air.

Are you finding they are waterproof stock, or do you have to add o-rings?

I only tested a couple of them, and they were stock. Then again, I only tested them at a 1 ft depth...not a tough test. I classify them as dunkable, not waterproof. I was surprised myself, especially with the switch... I thought that would be the weak point. Turns out the switch is sealed well...it has a silicone boot/seal, as well as an o-ring.

Although I didn't find a trace of water anywhere in the flashlights after the test, I think the head may be the weakest link to allow water in. In any case, people were asking me if they could be used in the rain... after this test, I'd say yes! :twothumbs

Hi KRS1,
Nope, won't throw near as far as a DBS. However, the beam is totally different than a DBS (or any other reflector based flashlight). There isn't really a discernable difference between spot and spill, it's basically all spot... but a bigger spot than a typical light. Put it this way, a DBS will light up the neighbor's garage door across the street... the modded Coast will light up the whole house! :duck:

New price! $59 shipped.

My costs have went down by exactly $10 for each light, and I'm passing the savings on to you. Even with all the new lights out there, this light is still in its own class, and I think it's a great deal!

And to be fair to the other three who just paid the full $69 (xrdriver, amik, brightlight), I'm sending $10 to your Paypal accounts. :)

I have a few more that I'm finishing up now, and have added them to the list in the first post.
