A light for multiple functions/uses:

The head portion of the light is 0.83in. (21mm) diameter and is 1.32in. (33.5mm) long. Weight of the head is about 0.60oz. (17gm) and uses a Cree Q2-WC. It is connected to the power pack by a 2.5ft. long cord using RCA type connectors. It has 5-modes, low (20LM), mid (60LM), high (150LM), strobe and SOS. The head can be used as a headlight, hat lamp, bicycle light, etc. I still have to figure out the best mounting methods for these applications. Beam shot at 1m. at mid setting.

Power can be from any 3.0-4.5V source such as 3x alkalines, 3x NiMH or 1x Li-Ion. The power pack shown in the picture uses 3x AA NiMH as that is what I had laying around. Run times with this power pack (2,600mAH) is about:
High - 180 min. 0.85A
Mid - 472 min., 0.33A
Low - 1,300 min., 0.12A
Strobe - 312 min, 0.50A
Total cost (excluding batteries) to build, about $12.
