Newbie 3/4D Mag Questions

I have no idea where to go with these question, as it seems there are alot of subforums that could fit most of them.

Is there a sticky with update information on the best or cheapest D-Cell LED Upgrades?

I've got two of these flashlights, and I love them with the exception that they burn through expensive batteries and they don't seem to compare to LEDs in brightness.

I'd want to keep the Mags, but improve on their performance.

Are there any NEW updated stickies on this topic? Most of the information I find is a year or so old.

PHeller, saw your other thread and it seems you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. The maglite drop-in thread has a pretty complete list of what you can do with your 2D and 4D maglites.
