Anyone who has a Surefire 6P and digital calipers, I need a favor from you!

I need the measurement of the inner diameter of the head (where the P60 fits in). I'm trying to find the avg. ID & extremes of them.

Mods, if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it where you see fit.

What generation are these 6Ps? I measured two old-school round-body 6P and two 12ZMs at the neck and they all mic'ed at 0.872" ID.

Thats ony.003 dif. I'm sure that is in the correct machining tolerance range +or- .005

I can post measurements on my 6P on Monday. How about the SF C3?

Also, there is also the inside taper, would you be interested in both ID's?

The point is to add the information as to what generation the host body is. SF clearly has made in-line dimensional changes to their lights over the years. Until you log both pieces of data (dimension and generation), you'll never be able to determine if there is a difference or not.

Even if the two sets of measurements up to the date of my post are only 0.003" apart, that doesn't mean that they are necessarily within a typical 0.005" machining spec since we don't know (at that time) if the data points are near the mean or extremes.

Now that others have posted that their current gen 6Ps also clock in at ~0.871" or more, we are getting somewhere in understanding that the neck diam probably hasn't changed with the 6P version.

Sorry Justin....my 6pled is brand new 3/2010 from lowes. BTW mine is not the nice golden color on the inside:mecry:

My 6P doesn't have that nice golden color either. The threads on the body are bare too.

Is this normal for Surefire lights that aren't bought directly from Surefire?

The golden color came from a Chemkote-type process. A while back SF changed their process to a comparable one that happens to appear clear.

I don't have a digital caliper, but I do have a dial indicator caliper that works just as well... I'll try to get a measurement of my 10 year old 6P tonight.

Rather late in my measurements, but better late than never I guess...
SF 6P 0.873" 0.874" = 22.19 mm
SF C3 (very old, ser# 5xxx, 3-flats version w/ round 'belly') 0.875" 0.876" = 22.24 mm
FiveMega 0.873" 0.873" = 22.17 mm
SF G3 (nitrolon) 0.954" 0.954" = 24.23 mm

OK, finally got around to this, in case it would be of any interest:

The smaller of the two head IDs, just above the ledge that the lowest part of the drop-in (or drop-in spring) rests against:
SF 6P 0.763" = 19.38 mm
SF C3 (old) 0.765" = 19.43 mm
FiveMega 0.804" = 20.42 mm
SF G3 (nitrolon) 0.793" = 20.14 mm
