What driver would be recommended for light applications where you're wanting about 800-1100ma in a 1 or 2 Li-ion application.

I've seen that some of the "cheaper" drivers drop/fluctuate depending on which configuration you're using: 18650 vs 2*16340/RCR. Is there a driver out there I'm missing that might work well.

A manageable width is a plus too...probably no more than 20mm. Height - ehh, whatever.

It can only be a high/off or lo/high/off - nothing else is needed for this mod.

I know there's the list of Drivers here (http://www.videofoundry.co.nz/ianman/laboratory/research/driverlist.php)

But knowing which one really gives you the specs listed is a hit/miss - especially when you're dealing with less expensive drivers. I'm not looking to put a $25 driver in a $50 light, despite the fact that those more expensive drivers are more likely to perform to specs.

No help huh....?

If you have a low Vf emitter (e.g., around 3.2V at 1000mA drive), then the DX3256 or DX26110 might be able to run in regulation for a reasonable amount of time in 1x18650. Those drivers have relatively low voltage overhead above Vf for regulation. Both of those drivers will certainly run fine on 2xLi-ion.

Eprom made good review on dx sku 3256. It seems both driver are best run for 2x li-ion or 2xcr123 not for single li-on 18650. How about dx sku 15880, any good for single li-on ?
