This is my modified Rayovac Keychain light.

It started out life like the gold light on the left. Have an unmodified (except for 3mm LED and 5ohm resistor) Mag Solitaire for comparison.

Business end.

Runs on a 10280 battery.

I pulled out the battery spring and installed a 10ohm resistor and potted it with UV cured glue. I used a small piece of brass bent into a U to act as a spring and make better contact with the battery. The 10ohm resistor feeds the LED about 50ma.

Didn't get a picture of it but used a miter box to cut off the threads.

Not pretty but I had to use a hacksaw to get the LED out of the hood.

Then used a screw driver to pry it open.

Parts finally freed.

Again, not pretty but used snippers to cut away all the extra plastic from the reflector. Didn't get a picture but it took lots of sanding to get it fit in the end of the light.

Spot comparison between the original with a magnifier lense and without.

With mag lense.

Without lense.

It's hard to tell from the picture but the light without the lense actually provides more light.

Playing around with the lense. This is with the magnifier about 1" from the LED. It has a good throw and maybe something to look at for a future project.

Just something I discovered while playing around with low cost white LEDs. Notice the LED on the right has a darker yellow dye than the one on the left. Sorry I don't have a beam shot for comparison but the LEDs with the darker yellow dyes have much better throw and put out more light for the same amount of current.

Thanks for looking!
