A somewhat of an "old school" build, but a nice light nevertheless. I constructed this several months back and just have not had the time to post. I choose the SSC P4 USWOH bin emitter which have a nice warmish tint compared to the Cree's I have previously been accustomed too.

The fatman + pot allows for variable output control. It pulls 1A at full throttle giving roughly 650 lumens output and dims down to ~20 - 30 lumens on low. I am still looking for a pot knob that I like. The stock knobs from Radio Shack just don't do it for me. I also enlarged the switch boot opening a bit too much so the rubber switch does not stay put. To solve that, I use bicycle inner tube to hold it in place and give a nice grippy feel (3rd pic down). Like several other of my m@g builds, I completely deanodized the bezel and tailcap to give a cool two-tone effect.

Specs
1.5D M@g (cut & JB Welded)
Custom Al heatsink
3 x SSC P4 USWOH
IMS 20mm reflectors
Fatman boost driver
External pot
Deanodized bezel and tailcap
Powered by 2 x IMR 25500

Onto the pics....

You should try 3*XP-G R5 .... Puts out some extra lm. I've done a similar mod for a friend of mine.

Mag 3C, 2*18650, DX bost circuit (3.99$ - efficiency ~ 85%), 4*XP-G A0

I'm already one step ahead -> 4 x XPG R5 here :laughing:!

SSC P4s are often put aside in favour of Cree emitters (XREs)
But IMHO the P4 produce a much smoother and nicer beam
than XREs, no Cree rings :sick2:

Have you had a chance to play with Osram Diamond Dragons ?
They have the throw of a Cree XRE but the smoothness of a P4
If memory serves correctly they can be driven at 1.5A or more
to give you +300 lumens at the emitter.

BTW your homemade heatsink, especially the driver HS is great
I wish I could made something like that ..... I dont have opposing thumbs
