noob: have some Build questions

Ive got a few questions, concerning my build in planning:

For reference, here are some of the items I will most likely be using.

(1) Main question: is would someone check my planning/concepts to make sure I am thinking correctly. Or if this will even work (I am a noob after all )

  • The LED has a Vf of 8.55 (3 rebel stars connected in series).
  • Obviously with the driver, a resistor becomes unnecessary.
  • Also I will be running 1000ma for optimal brightness (without over driving and shortening the led life).
  • ...Still working on a host...
  • ...Baterries... Li-ion 3.7V, NIMH? ?, high voltage is needed for the high voltage of the LED series.... I don't wish for a large flashlight, so maybe some AAA (or AA) Li-Ions connected in series and parallel? (exact configuration TBD, still debating on how much battery life I want to the extra weight of batteries)
  • Carclo-18-Deg-Tri-Lens
  • Heat sink and thermal compound (obviously)

(2) Others questions:

Say I were to get crazy and put 3 tri-stars in (9 LEDS in series). Which is likely to happen... I think I have caught the flashlight fever, or whatever you call it...flashaholic thing...lol

  • The Foward voltage would increase 3 fold to about 25.6V right?
  • So I would need about 30V ~ 32V running throughout the circuit from the batteries? (I know that seems a bit ambiguous, but For All my research, I feel better safe than sorry)
  • Would the battery life (maH) decrease, stay the same, or what?

let me expound with an example that uses simpler numbers... so I have an LED with Vf of 2V, and it is running a 1000mA I have 2 AA NiMH (1.2V) rated at 2000 maH connected in series (2.4V).

    - The light would theoretically burn for 2 hours.

but if I added Say 2 more of the same LEDS
  • The Vf would increase to 6V right?
  • I would have to connect 3 more batteries in the series to equal the 6V right?
  • ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS ON THE POST ---- what happens to the Battery life?????

-----I know It is still at 2000 maH, but does it last for one hour, 15 min or what?

-----I have searched the world over for this answer, and found nothing...:shakehead:

Well, I guess thats about it, feel free to tear this apart with corrections if you'd like......or dare anyone reply to this mass of questions???:shakeheadlol

oh and what do you think about the build?

Thanks
