How to improve heat transfer in MXDL SA-28 Q5?

I got a couple of these from ebay as cheap high powered lights for my push bike but within an hours use at full power both reflectors were showing signs of melting, another hours use and one had failed completely - the emitter had moved by 5mm or so across the star board it was mounted on.

I have been offered some replacement parts from another seller but to ensure it doesn't happen again I was hoping someone could offer advice to get the heat away from the emitter as quickly as possible?

From what I can see the emitter sits on a star board which is loosely sat on a chunk of aluminium which screws into the light body. Where should I be most concerned about the thermal transfer? I wouldn't imagine the star board would be *that* conductive of heat but I may be wrong?

Any suggestions would be welcome even though I know this isn't a particularly great quality light to start with...
