Novatac 120P quirky behavior - light ramps up and down on a primary

I recently got a a Novatac 120P from the mp, and was told it behaves erratically - sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. If I use a primary, the light turns on, and ramps up and down, and blinks mid-way, and so on (a-la-programming mode). If I use a rechargeable (which is a mm or two longer than the lithium primary), it works fine. Has anyone seen such behavior with a primary battery? Any clue on how to stop it, and get it working normal?

Interestingly length of the battery matters here, and reading cpf tells me that on a Novatac, everything has to be really really tight for the light to operate normally. I have tried elongating the center spring slightly as well, but the behavior on primary remains unaltered. Appreciate your insight, and thanks in advance.

Three possible solutions:

1) Have you done a factory reset on the light?

2) If the above has been done, did you do a battery-detect reset when changing from the Li-Ion to the primary?

3) Was the tail cap properly tightened?

I had a very similar issue with my Novatac when using it with a 17670 body.
Originally the 17670 body worked fine for about 1 year but then started showing the exact
same symptoms as the OPs. Tried cleaning all contact points and stretching the spring
Nothing worked except when I used the original 123 body.

#1 worked. Did a factory reset and the light functions fine. Thanks a lot.

I did check that before doing a factory reset. Thanks for the information, though. The factory reset seems to have done the trick, and it now functions perfect.
