I'm thinking ahead to Xmas and what flashlight to ask Santa for. I'm an ultra runner who does 100 mile races on trails so a great flashlight/headlamp is a must.

Been mulling over the Tektite EXPEDITION™ 1900. Waterproof, check. 12 hour full brightness burn time, check. Wrist lanyard in case I trip, check. I like the flood of light from the 19 bulbs also.

I currently use a Streamlight 7 led and like it except for it's burn time and brightness. (I also use a 4 LED moonlight headlamp)

So what is not to like about the Tektite? Is there something better, cheaper than the $119 price? Thoughts? I realize I have a very specfic need here. Thanks.

i would think a nice 2D driven luxeon like the anglelux might do nicely--it has 24 hours runtime.

i think the beam is narrow, but you could spec it with optics to produce more of a flood.

around...$60, i think?

you could build your own out of any old 2d using a luxeon, favorite optic and miocropuck for even less.

but...elektrolumens' work is fantastic.
