left fenix tk-41 on high

for a long time by accident.Smelled bad and after unscrewing the light found a semi-gooey mess in carrier etc,, i just cleaned it out best as i could.What are chanced it will work again?.Probably about 3 yrs old.Could not be more upset

But 3 years old TK41? I understand you mean TK40?

What kind of batteries did you have in it? If they were alkalines and they leaked, you may be able to clean the gunk off of the battery carrier and bring it back to life. I have done this with a few lights. Was the odor it gave off a chemical type, or did it smell like "burnt electronics?"

Clean it up and test with new batteries. If it still works, it should be fine.

As for the burning smell, it'll help to know what kind of batteries you were running.

I had the same problem while using Energizer rechargeable batteries in my TK40, switched to eneloops and never looked back.
