I'd like to replace the XM-L with a better tint. It looks like I need to make a tool with 2 pins an inch apart to unscrew the pill...

I went ahead and did it, but it wasn't easy. I bought 2 Wiha 90 degree ring pliers, internal and external. I heated it with the hot air gun several times, getting it hot enough to distort the LED centering ring. Using my usual tubing vise, I munged up the original holes, and had to drill 2 more. I broke one of the ring pliers. Dangit, their glue was tough. I broke one of the wires. However, now all is revealed. There are no electronics in the pill. The MCPCB is a Jetbeam labeled copper unit. I put in a 4K XM-L from Illumination Supply. Pretty warm looking, much warmer than one would expect compared to the Nichia 219 4500K hi-cri. The final damage isn't as pretty as some mods, but not too noticeable on the outside.

Pics are pretty self explanatory, so no captions.
