I think XTAR made another interesting charger, with max. 2A charge current, LifeP04 and 4.35V support (+ USB output) :)

Just heard the news over on CPFM. This looks to be a promising charger.

But wow that new LG 3200mAh cell you mentioned is a nice surprise!

Would this SP1 work on something like the Sanyo 16650 cells, that HKJ charges up to 4.3v, or will that extra .05v be a 'deal breaker?'

I see that it's +/- .05v, but I'm no expert. I do have some Redilast 17670s that use the Sanyo 16650, so this would be of interest, although my WP2 II charger seems to do fine with them, albeit at 4.20v.

Thanks, Chris

I've thought about that too, I'm guessing if you can take out the cell 1/2 hr to 1 hr before fully charged you should be around 4.3V.
I'm no expert either, that's just what I would probably do.
But do the Redilast 17670 have the 4.2V protection circuit or can they actually be charged up to 4.3V?

Hey Chris, you must be psychic, I just googled "XTAR SP1 charger" and the second hit took me to CPF where you mention the SP1 back in August:

Good question about the protection circuit. If you put a gun to my head, I would guess that the Redilast 17670s wouldn't charge above 4.20 (+/- .05v) and I didn't contemplate that fact. I would need to get the naked Sanyo 16650s and frankly, for as little as I use my SF 6P with Redilast 3 mode XM-L U2 drop-in that I got along with two of their 17670s, it's really not worth it to me to fiddle with the SP1.

Now, on to my mentioning the SP1 back in August. That was purely an error on my part, as I mix up the nomenclature with the Xtar SPx charger, lol.

I have to constantly go to Ebay and look it up, so no...I didn't have any 'insider info,' sorry to say.

Charging a 4.30 volt to 4.35 volt would be overcharging, but if the charger is very close to 4.35 volt (i.e. not 4.40 volt), I would not worry that much about it, due to the typical 0.05 volt tolerance (I do not remember the exact tolerance for the 4.30 volt cells).

I have two ICR18650-26FU. I believe these take a 4.35v charge, but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm?

markr the Samsung ICR18650-26FU is a normal 3.7V/4.2V battery, only 3000-3200mAh Samsung batteries can charge up to 4.35V

OK thanks! Not sure where I got off course thinking these were differnet from my other 18650s. Just some extras I pulled from a cell phone charger pack.

Seems potentially dangerous, but very interesting nonetheless. Anxiously awaiting reviews.

I'm really looking forward to seeing these reviewed and become available from USA retailers. XTAR produces great chargers, so I'm sure the SP1 will be good, too.

I wonder, btw, if there's much of a difference between the LG Chem ICR18650D1, 3000mAh versus LG Chem ICR18650E1, 3200mAh

I can't find anything about a 3200 mAh, 4.35 E1 though :(

I just saw this. Looks like another interesting option but how's the quality if it's another $10 charger?

$10?

with the SP2 going around 40, dont expect anything less than 25 for the SP1.
,
At this point we can only guessimate quality, but Xtar has been churning out very good chasrgers for some time now

I was going by the pricing on their other 1 cell chargers which are all $10 or under but for a half SP2 I guess half the price isn't bad. A bit of a premium for the USB output. I think I'll be picking one up.
