I just received a Nitecore HC90 headlamp today. I didn't realize that this doesn't come with a battery. I am used to Streamlight, Inova, and Pelican that all come with a battery. Anyway, I want to go with an 18650 battery. Are they all created equal? What 18650 should I go with?

I know this isn't what the 'cool kids' use (ie protected cells based on the NCR18650B). But I use unprotected Panasonic NCR18650BDs in my lights that use 18650s. They have almost the same capacity as the more popular NCR18650B. But they maintain a higher voltage. And as long as the light has built-in low voltage protection, I would rather not deal with protected cells.

Nitecore have their own 18650s to choose from which I think are Panasonic based. You may want to try the Panasonic and KeepPower 18650s. Check their reviews on the review and battery threads

I use Panasonic NCR18650B's in all my 18650 lights and have had no issues. They are also 3400mah, so they last long. If you are concerned about reliability or compatibility, I would consult Nitecore directly or just purchase some of their batteries.
