Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum - although I have been lurking for a while.

Anyway, I have a mag-tac that I atually sort of like. I know there isn't much love for mag-lite products on the forum, but I've found the mag-tac to be a decent light. I hate that it doesn't have a low mode (I have the crenelated version, so no low).

Anyway, I recently bought a Fenix TK61 and therefore now also have a few 18650 batteries and a nitecore d4 charger.

I think it would be nice to run the mag-tac on a single 18650. The body of the light would need to be bored out slightly, but that wouldn't be a huge problem, as far as I can tell.

My questions are - will the light run on a single 18650?

Has anyone bothered to try this?

Any positives or negatives to this sort of mod?

Thanks for any info!

Dig through the forums and Im sure youll find out about it. From what I can remember yes it can be bored for an 18650 but an 18650 will blow the light at 3.6/3.7 volts. Youd have to custom build the whole light for it to work.

Yeah, I've searched and searched but haven't been able to find anything.

Boring the light out isn't an issue - there's plenty of room (physically) for the 18650.

There shouldn't be a voltage issue with the 18650, as the light runs on two cr123 batteries stock.

Im just not sure how the light will run with the lower voltage.
