Hello guys,

I'd like to connect 8 infrared LEDs to a normal car battery (~ 14V, which is installed & in use by the car). I know the basics of electronics but sadly not enough to do this without messing something up. And this is why I'm here.. Now, about the LEDs.. These are the ones I have -> http://i.imgur.com/lTlr3Vf.jpg (this is what says on them "LED 55B, GE 247".. sadly I lost the paper with all their specs) and I believe this could be the PDF with the specs http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf/view/53565/FAIRCHILD/LED55B.html .. Is it cheaper to build my own circuit for this (and if so, I'd appreciate if somebody could show me a schematic for it), or is there already something that I could buy pre-made and use for this?

Thanks in advance!

you need this circuit , LM2596 DC-DC Step-down Adjustable CC/CV Power Supply Module LED driver, connect leds in 2 string of 4 in series,(4s2p) wire 2 strings in parallel. set voltage on the driver board to more than 6v, and current to 200ma, this board will feed the led with 200ma and whatever voltage they need will be adjusted by the board. that is all.

or if you want to go simple route, just wire all in series, and use 25-30 ohm resistor 5w should be enough, in your case regulation is not needed, since your battery voltage is always in same range, small losses on resistor is not a concern in your case, resistor will keep power in safe range for leds.
