Last night, as I was getting ready for bed, I heard the distinct sound of the door on my backyard fence shutting. Since it wasn't windy, I knew that this was either man or animal made, and my bet was on the man. I had a strange pair of lights with me, which was the Streamlight 4AA Xenon and it's brother, but in the LED version. I was comparing them earlier in the night and happened to have them there. As I went outside with my 90 lb. Lab and my lights, I did a quick sweep of the backyard. Using my 4AA Xenon, I was able to easily reach the back of my backyard with plenty of brightness...and then I saw it... a pair of eyes, looking back at me. I knew that it was a dog's, and my dog immediately began to bark. As I retreated, and my dog "escorted" this smaller dog out of our backyard through the door in our gate, I realized that I failed to latch the gate earlier in the evening, and the dog was probably just wandering. It did have a collar but as soon as it was outside of our backyard, it was off in a hurry. My dog and I went inside, and I was pleasantly surprised at how bright the 4AA was. I looked up it's power, and all I could see was it was rated at 6,000 Peak Beam Candlepower....comparing it to my Princeton Tec 40 with Lithiums, the Streamlight had a farther throw and a tighter beam...it was almost in my G2 class as far as brightness, but not quite. Anyone know how many lumens these lights are rated at?

Also, if I had it handy, I would've gone for my 6p or PM6 or TL-2 Xenon...but as I said before, the 4AA Xenon really surprised me with it's output....for all the owners of one, are you guys as impressed as me??

For 4AA thats pushing around 6 volts.

I purchased a 4AA Xenon as one of my first lights back in 2001. It had the older style body, I recently sent it in on repair work and Streamlight sent me a new 4AA Xenon. I am surprised at the imrovements. Instead of reaplcing the lamp (which easy got off center) you replace the entire assembly. The reflector is also improved to aluminujm or some kind of metal. I also like the clickie.

Its a very nice light that is dwarfed by the high powered ones (CR123's). Alkalines can only power so much because of internal resistance.

Being able to interchange heads. The 4AA Propolymer's are nice. I just have to find a LED head soon.

The SL PP-4AA is a great light for the general public who won't buy a 2x123 type. I like the PP-4AA and Pelican's StealthLight for their switches, brightness, and comfortable feel. Good lights on the cheap, however, I believe that UK and PT may now have better equivalents.
