Direct Drive A LuxIII with CR2\'s?

I have an old Garrity minimag clone thats barrel is big enougth to put CR2's in and has a clickie tailcap that I have been considering cutting the barrel and using the old head as a host for a LuxIII.

Has anyone tried this type of a direct drive and does anyone have any advice?

I have that same light....I took all my run down 123 cells (most are at about 1.98-2.5 volts) and direct drive a 1 watt low dome. Works good, not the brightest but it does give me something to do with old batteries.

For those who have not seen this light, it is a 2AA Garity. It comes with a AA holder that slides in the body. So the body is oversized and if you wanted to 3 123 cells fit perfect. I put 2 old ones in with a longer spring on the tail cap.

I didn't even think about trying 123's, just seemed that CR2's would fit.

Come one big modders, ideas please!

bwaites,

I have no direct experience with what you propose but it should work fine if you can adaquately heatsink the LS III and select an appropriate series resistor. 6V direct IMO will smoke the LS.

I tried, can't fit 123's, but the tube seems custom made for CR2's and I have six ready to roll if I can figure out the right way to do this.
