Some types of flashlights have red lenses available, most right-angle military-style lights come with red lenses. There is a 2AA Brinkman Rebel flashlight that comes with a red lens adaptor, and a Rayovac 2AA adjustable-angle head light that has a red lens included. PR-bulb flashlights also can be retrofitted with a red LED PR base bulb. There also some red LED adaptors for 2AA minimags. It all depends on if you want to just buy a new light or convert an existing light.
i tried making the bulb red with one of those overhead markers (the kind of pens that write on all surfaces) but the red had some cracks of white light between.
the red lense for the maglite, is it also as dark as the one for the d and c cells? does anyone here own them and if yes can you post a picture of it in use and the lense alone? thanks
You can get get colored filters in sheets from lighting supply stores. They are made for theatric and concert lighting. The filters can be cut down to any size.
If you're using a mini-mag, you can replace the bulb with a 3mm red LED (or any other color for that matter). If you continue to use the 2AA, no resistor is needed (light's dimmer, though). If you go with 3 N cells, you'll have to use a spacer with a resistor. I've also seen replacement lenses of different colors for the minimags. G'luck!
you can order the 2AA maglite accessory pack that includes some stuff. three different lenses (red one included) and clip and a lanyard. i ordered two packs and two opalec newbeams.
