The Arc AAA only has a SOS function when I place my index finger over the LED and raise and lower it in shorts and longs. You can kind of do a strobe action by spreading your fingers apart and raising and lowering your hand in front of the LED. It has a dim mode by partially covering the LED with any finger you care to use.
Otherwise, it is either off or on.

Another convenient "manual" SOS method is:

1. Twist light head on.
2. Very slowly twist toward off position and stop turning immediately when beam extinquishes.
3. You can flash SOS by pressing the side of the head with pressure from your thumb or other finger. Press sideways, perpenticular to the flashlight body to flash. Easing pressure cuts the beam.

Steve, if you're not familiar with the Arc AAA, you might want to buy a stock one before investing in a modded one. They are great out of the box.
