An idea that I had when I saw my EOS Speedlight (and probably most decent SLR flashguns) flickers a red light to help it with autofocus in low light. It sort of projects stripes of light which got me thinking maybe I could replace the lamp in there with a red Luxeon Star to possibly increase the range and effectiveness of the focus assist light.
Would there be any point in trying something like that or would anybody saying cheese just get blinded by the intense light when they look at the camera ?
