I put a TX0K into an ARC LS, here are some pics:

Board with old emitter:

The parts:

The ARC formerly got a two-stage switch with a resistor of 10 Ohm for low mode.

Beamshot in low mode at 1m distance:

Beamshot in high mode at 1 m distance:

This thing is as bright as my QIII with TW0J, I love it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

nice job!!

now drop an SO17 reflector and glass lens in for even better performance!!!

cy,

I like the sidespill of the NX05.
Would it be the same with the SO17 ?

NX-05 will have more spill, but SO17 still has plenty of spill with way better throw.

effeciency goes up, don't know by what %, but more light gets out the front end with reflector.

Does the shape of the spot also change with SO17 ?
Now I have a more squarish beam shape.

top is NX-05, bottom is SO17 reflector

so17 is better in every way

I'm surprised that you didn't add another .15 ohm resistor and boost the output too. Since you had it all apart, that is. Of course, it does run nicely at the stock current level.

cy,
thanks for the beamshot, that says it all.
Seems I have to do that, too /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Chop,
yes, I thought of that, but I didn't have the needed resistor at hand.
And I'd like 500mA better than 660mA. For that I would need about .28 ohm.

As for the reflector and the lens, do I get it right that I would need a SO17XA and a 17.0mm/2mm Flat Mineral Glass Lens from the sandwich shoppe ?
Can the reflector be fastened with the same thread ring that holds the NX05 ?

16.8mm X .95mm thick is what you want. you may need to turn lens sideway down milled slot to get into position.

lately I'm favoring leaving stock current of aprox 350 milliamps alone. having the option of driving at higher current by running R123.

vf of luxeon will determin actual current, but will be aprox. 800 milliamps for Jbin.

if you are lucky enough to get a 3watt Hbin, then don't run li-ion. vf goes up or down in relationship to current delivered.

example would be TWOH's vf = 3.182 when 3.3V @ 700 milliamps is delivered via bench power supply. the same Hbin's vf is 3.076 with 3.309V @ 349 milliamps delivered by bench power supply.

or aprox. 4% veriation up or down.

cy,

some more questions.

Where would I get such a lens, AFAIK the shoppe and flashlightlens.com both don't have those ?

Would the lens-reflector assembly be water resistant as the original setting ?

Can the reflector be fixed with the thread ring that now holds the NX05 ?

mineral lens are aprox .80 ea in 3paks for $2.50 at ottofrei
there is a handling charge on all orders.

yes water resistance will be preserved if you follow excellent direction posted by litfuse.

yes you will need to re-use the plastic threaded ring

I've been real pleased with the mineral lens from ottofrei

please note 1.5mm lens are available too. since these are made for watches, wouldn't be surprised if these are as tuff as UCL lens.

I've got both 19.7 and 19.8. so far 19.8 has worked for everything if you use the milled groove in threads to work in.

I did the reflector mod as cy suggested. And I added one .33 Ohm resistor.

The result is awesome, it throws alot more than my QIII now, and the sidespill went up from 110 cm to 150 cm /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
