The DB 8AA has a 5.5V/0.7A lamp, and it's a 4-cell. That makes me think 4x1.2V = 4.8V

This means the bulb is somewhat underdriven? What about putting 4 lithiums in the barrel?
4x1.5V = 6V

Perhaps lithiums' voltage are higher? more like 1.7?....then what about 3 lithiums and 1 dummy?

The 8AA I'm familiar with is the PT Surge.
Please refresh my memory about the DB 8AA;
I can't seeem to place it.

I own the Energizer 6x AA. It's actually a fairly decent light, but the idea of putting in 6 lithiums never even occurred to me. (that was in my pre-CPF days).

I'll bet the 8AA is (was) pretty good too.

Well, the Double Barrels are quite good. They have a pure white beam, which could have been brighter. The problem is that you get confused by the spesifications. The DB 8AA bulb ratings are about 80 lumens. This is really far from reality! My 8AA is just a little brighter than Maglite 3D.....which means 30-40 lumens. The reason is probably that the bulb is underdriven.

We had some nice discussion with ike from WA lately about the bulbs formerly used in the DBs made by WA - just do a search on something like ike - "when WA was supplying Eveready it was using 01284 for the 4AA, 01286 for the 6AA and 01288 for the 8AA"
