What I consider the biggest revelation in LED lighting this year is the affordability in good quality LED lights. In that manner, I would nominate the SL PolyPro 4AA Lux as the 2005 light of the year unless the light was available last year.

We didn't have 2004 Lumies did we? I think Gun Collector was the one that organized this in the past but I haven't seen him online lately.

Maybe someone else will step to the plate and put it together for this year.

My website won third place in the 2003 Lummies. :)
I know there were no 2004 Luminescence Awards, because the people that were to be involved in it were not able to spare sufficient time to administer to the awards.

I tried to rally support last year and even contacted the previous organizer Gun Collector IIRC. Unfortunately no-one was interested at all and it is a lot of work FWIU.

Maybe someone has the time to go for it this year.

Could it be done with a poll?

Light of the year
Single AAA
Two AAA
Single AA
Two AA
One CR123
Two or more CR123
C and D cell
Keychain
Headlamp
Light under $50
Light $50-$100
Light $101-$200
Light $200+

Best Manufacturer
Best Dealer
Best Review Site
Best Modder

Something along the lines of the above? Maybe open the poll the 15th of December and run it through the 31st with the awards to follow? Pushing it that late would allow LRI one last chance, Arc to push out an AA, Peak for their tailswitch and Luxeon AAA model, Fenix with a 2AA model etc.

Now that would be quite a battle in the making... we have a month to go to see how it all shakes out.

Seems very nice :) Maybe some other categories to vote on :
- best EDC flashlight
- most innovative flashlight
- best low budget Luxeon flashlight
- best LED replacement unit
...

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to let everyone know that The Lummies have not appeared since 2003 due not to lack of interest on Admin/Mods part--but, as mentioned above--lack of time and resources.

I had a great time conceiving, coordinating, and conducting The Lummies in 2002 and 2003.

However, it was a very time-consuming task (a labor of love actually). I was hoping to pass the banner along to another volunteer-coordinator. Alas, for neither last year nor this year, were we able to find another volunteer coordinator amongst the already-busy Admin/Mod staff.

Maybe in 2006?

Then we could have the Damnies...

Vaporware light of the year
Biggest BS'ing specs manufacturer of the year
Most overhyped light of the year
Most underhyped light of the year
POS light of the year (the "**** on it" awards like the LED Museum)

I nominate the Proton for vaporware light of the year!
