Yes, one wire should not be connected at first.
Another way would be to build everything together and measure the current through the tailcap. it's not that accurate but is mostly enough.

If you connect 12V then there should be about 0.8A through the tailcap and with 6V 1.6A.

Thanks for your help, and your patience---I realise these are incredibly stupid questions but I am learning!!!!

Hi
Der Wichtel I have your driver, and now it's time to connect it to my mag, because I order yesterday a D2Flex pwm driver. All I want is to tell me that is the wiring below correct? I suppose it is... If not can you tell me please where I'm wrong?
Thanks

It's wrong. on the D2flex board the in+ and LED+ pins are connected. If you connect it like this you will short the driver.

Connect + output of the driver to in+ of the dimmer.
+ of battery goes only to the battery not to the dimmer.

In- is not - of led. Connect in- to gnd ( - of battery) and led- to the negative of p7.

Hi,
yes I have drivers left.
The dimmer will be integrated in the next driver. The prototype is working but needs some fine tuning between the components which could take a while

about one month. I have to get a lot of different models/versions of each component in order to get the best combination for good efficiency and performance.

There will be two versions. One with dimmer and the other one without.
The one without dimmer will be released first after everything is working.
Then I can start testing and programming the dimmer part.

DW, be sure  here's atleast few P7-maniacs how are waiting for your new combination.

I'm bit tired :sweat:finding proper P7 mag driver+dimmer solution. I know you will save us from that problem!

No pressure I hope :naughty: ?

Will the dimmer be adjustable with an external pot?
(please, please, please, please...)

Well i don't think that it will be dimmed with an external pot. But i'll keep that idea in my mind while programming the software
Thanks.
The speed at which a level can be reached can't be matched with an electronic UI and the ability to select a level before the light is turned on has proven valuable to me any number of times.
When I broke mine, I carried two lights for a while. One with low - high, the other with high low so I could decide which to use.

It's also a lot of fun to start the light on low and get polite responses to how bright it is, then flick my thumb to get the wow effect. :)

Yep,
but unfortunately I had a fault in the pcb design. one trace was 1.5cm too long so that the inductance was too high on that trace which caused an unstable operation...
So I have to reorder the pcbs and throw the ones I have now away :hairpull:

lets see when the new ones will arrive

Hmm... Driver with modes, like low-med-high or high-med-low?

That would be really cool :twothumbs. I believe in that case I'm forced to buy your triple P7 kit.

Hi - nice setup. Could someone tell me - are the reflectors in the 3 x P7 mag head 20mm dia, or are they larger?

Thanks

Harry
